Focusing Appropriately

With GEN KELSANG CHOKYI

Sundays 11:00am - 12:15pm | $12 drop-in | Free for members

The importance of cutting the flow of disturbing thoughts in meditation cannot be overestimated. To meditate properly means to prevent the mind from wandering distractedly, and to place it so that it remains focused on a single object. If we have no object of meditation the mind becomes like a bird that wishes to land but cannot find any ground on which to do so. And if we have an object but our mind wanders elsewhere and everywhere, this is like a bird, who after landing on the ground, is unable to stand firmly in one place.

                                                    - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

You don't need to be Buddhist to benefit from these teachings. Each class includes a relaxing breathing meditation, a teaching, a contemplative meditation, and a closing dedication. Classes can be attended individually or as a series.

The Sunday morning meditation class is taught by Gen Kelsang Chokyi with guest Kadampa teachers on occasion.

This series is based on the books How to Solve Your Human Problems and Meaningful to Behold by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
