Sundays|12:30 – 2:30pm and 3:00 – 4:45pm with Resident Teacher Kadam Tom Mitchell
Foundation Program is one of Kadampa Buddhism’s systematic study programs, through which we can deepen our experience of Buddha’s teachings through cultivating our wisdom of listening, contemplating, and meditating, and through discussion with fellow practitioners.
The purpose of the Foundation Program is to provide a systematic presentation of particular subjects of Mahayana Buddhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism.
The program comprises the following five subjects, based on Buddha’s Sutra teachings and the corresponding commentaries by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
1.) The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, based on the commentary
2.) Training the Mind, based on the commentaries Universal Compassion and Eight Steps to Happiness
3.) The Heart Sutra, based on the commentary The New Heart of Wisdom
4.) Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, based on the commentary
5.) Types of Mind, based on the commentary How to Understand the Mind
Our current subject is Venerable Geshe Kelsang’s recently revised book How to Understand the Mind. The book details the nature of our delusions – our sources of suffering – and sets out clear and practical ways to overcome them. For this reason Foundation Program is beneficial for everyone.
